I Need Help! Speedy Coloring!

Hey, does anybody know a good way to fill in the base colors for a lineart that doesn't take very much time? The way I do it is with the polygonal lasso tool (this is on Photoshop CS) and block in the colors, but this this usually takes me way longer than it should. Some people can say that they colored so-and-so in 15 minutes or such. Am I doing something wrong?
